The central library
of the university is known as Prof. Bhubaneswar Behera
Central Library, which is located in the heart of the university. It
Establish in the year 1970, Prof. Bhubaneswar Behera Central Library aims at
selecting, acquiring, storing, retrieving and disseminating information
for the benefit of academic community of Sambalpur University. The Library
System comprises of a Central Library and 22 departmental libraries
that collectively support the teaching, research, selecting, acquiring,
storing, retrieving and disseminating information and extension
programmes of the University. The Central Library houses a total
collection of over three lakh documents comprising of books, theses,
journals, video cassettes and compact discs in the fields of science,
engineering, humanities, literature and management. All in-house
operations in the library are fully computerized using the Soul
software package that also provides web-based access to the online
catalogue of Library. This library contains more than 160,000 books in various subjects, and
also subscribes to a good numbers of periodicals in different
disciplines. The library is partially automated using SOUL software. The library is also a member of UGC-Infonet.
